Opening minds to
ADVANCED MANUFACTURING

Congrats to the #KYisMFG winners!

Students from Taylor County Schools Cardinal Academy (Middle School) and Wayne County High School produced the winning videos for the #KYisMFG Student Video Contest.

The students and their teachers were awarded $500 and an Apple Watch Series 3 at the KAM Workforce Readiness & Resource Conference on Thursday, October 26 in Louisville.

Thank you to all who submitted videos, and congratulations to the winners! Check out the videos below!

WHAT IS MAKERMINDED?
MakerMinded is creating the next generation of manufacturing leaders by saturating today’s learning infrastructure with a manufacturing mindset and bridging the gap between activities and programs that engage and educate youth and the students who can take advantage of them. It does this through a digital platform that connects students and schools to market-leading STEM and manufacturing learning experiences.

THE CHALLENGE
Over the next decade, it is projected that nearly 3.5 million manufacturing jobs will be open and available, just when today’s K-12 students are entering the workforce. However, it is also projected that about 2 million of those jobs will go unfilled. This ‘skills gap’ can partly be attributed to students’ negative image of the manufacturing industry and their lack of STEM skills, which are essential for the growing jobs in advanced manufacturing.

THE SOLUTION
Changing Mindsets and Empowering Students to Take Action

MakerMinded embeds in schools proven interventions and strategies specifically where the STEM workforce pipeline begins to break – during the formative years of middle and high school – when students are making decisions about further education and careers. While there are over 1200 STEM initiatives across the country focused on engaging and educating the next generation workforce, many schools, students, and parents lack awareness and access to the right program, and students miss out on critical opportunities to engage in STEM learning early.

How It Works

  1. ACTIVATE YOUR SCHOOL
Students or teachers sign up for MakerMinded and activate their school.
  2. COMPLETE ACTIVITIES
Students access the customized digital activity portfolio to select and complete activities, educational programs, and career learning experiences.
  3. SHOWCASE EXPERIENCES
Students experiences are documented and showcased through social media.
  4. SUBMIT POINTS
Schools receive points for completed activities. Points are tracked and promoted on the online leaderboard.
  5. AWARD RECOGNITION
A year-end statewide recognition event awards winning schools.

MakerMinded exists to get students excited about STEM related careers early in their educational paths, especially opportunities in the advanced manufacturing field. Students, teachers, and parents are encouraged and rewarded for their participation in the activities available in their state.
