Universal Woods plans to add more than 100 jobs, new facility in LouisvilleKAM
A Louisville company filed plans with Louisville Metro Government to expand its manufacturing presence in Louisville, and that project could bring with it more than 100 new jobs in the next few years.
Universal Woods Inc., a company that manufactures the finishes used for metal and wood products such as coasters, license plate frames, picture frames and plaques, has filed plans to construct a new facility at 2909 Blankenbaker Road in the Jeffersontown area. The company purchased the 10.5-acre property, which is listed as vacant on the application, from Synergy Logistics LLC last year for $1.6 million.
Universal Woods CEO Paul Neumann said the expansion has been in the works for some time due to the company’s growth, noting it is adding 20 to 25 employees each year.
The company’s Louisville operations are located at 2600 Grassland Drive.
There’s no timeline on construction of the new facility because Universal Woods is waiting to hear more from a major undisclosed client before proceeding, Neumann said during a phone interview Monday afternoon.
However, Neumann said adding another facility in Louisville could take its Louisville workforce from 175 employees to 300 in the next few years. The company also employs about 20 people in Cincinnati and 20 internationally as it operates smaller facilities in Australia and Belgium, Neumann said.
The plans filed by Universal Woods call for a 203,400-square-foot building with some office space, but Neumann said the building may not be that large. The company is still finalizing the plans for the facility as it works through the city’s permitting process, he said.
Neumann said the project will be a multimillion dollar development, but he declined to disclose specific costs.
Universal Woods is working with A.L. Engineering Inc. and Lichtefeld Inc. on the development, according to the plans filed with the city.
The company manufactures a range of products through a family of brands that includes Unisub, ChromaLuxe, ResinDek and SwitchCase.
Universal Woods’ products, which also includes Smartphone cases, are sold domestically and internationally, as it exports goods to more than 70 countries, according to its website.
