UPS to Add 1M Square Feet to Centennial Hub

UPS is planning an even bigger expansion than its executives first unveiled last fall for southern Louisville – much bigger.

The company will add more than 1 million square feet to its existing Centennial Hub, which will allow an increase in sorting capacity to 85,000 packages per hour. That’s nearly twice the size of what the company had estimated when Kentucky and Louisville leaders announced $1.75 million in tax incentives toward a planned $310 million expansion last October.

UPS also projected adding 300 jobs to staff the bigger facility.

The company and other big shipping competitors are modernizing equipment for moving and sorting packages and adding capacity to keep pace with the surge in e-commerce. The facility is at 8100 Air Commerce Drive, off Outer Loop, about 2 miles south of the Worldport facility.

UPS spokesman Mike Mangeot said the company “is pleased to be creating greater opportunities for our customers, adding jobs, and contributing to the economic growth of the Louisville Metro region.”
